A narrow waterfall drops between mossy boulders and tall rock walls into a dark pool that tumbles away over stones. Soft green light filters through the trees above, and a path climbs the ferny bank on the left. Stanley Ghyll lies in Eskdale in the Lake District, and this painting shows the hidden, shaded feel of the gorge.
